If like us, you love a good interior design show, then you’ve probably made your way through most of the Netflix catalog. To help you decide which series to get stuck into next, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite home décor shows. From beautiful interiors from Shea and Syd McGee in Dream Home Makeover to the renovation of a beautiful 19th-century French chateau in Escape to the Chateau, we’ve got you covered.

Dream Home Makeover

Power couple Shea and Syd McGee of Studio McGee, an interior design business, help families update their home in a way that is tailored to their unique style. Shea has a relaxed attitude to interior design, with stunning results. When it comes to her approach, she says: ‘Whether our clients have two million dollars, or twenty thousand, I want them all to feel that sense of peace when they walk in the door.”

The show also follows the personal lives of the McGee family, the running of their design company, and their family life with their two daughters. The college sweethearts quit their respective office jobs to start a design company. The path to success wasn’t straightforward, as they found themselves in a dire financial position in the early days of the business. The Studio McGee Instagram account now has over 3 million followers, they’ve launched their own furniture line and have collaborated with Target. For those who can’t get enough of the show, their story is documented in their behind-the-scenes book, Make Life Beautiful.

Stay Here

The increasing popularity of services such as Airbnb and HomeAway have led to a boom in short-term rentals. On the Netflix show, Stay Here, Designer Genevieve Gorder and real estate expert Peter Lorimer help property owners monetize their rental accommodation. The first episode follows a couple from Seattle, who are looking to revamp a houseboat which they intend to rent out to cover childcare costs. The result of the renovation is a beautiful, Scandanavian style barge, available to book on Airbnb.

The show demonstrates the particular care needed when designing a short-term rental property, as the guests’ experience must be taken into account. Unlike renovating a family home, rental properties require different amenities that make them suitable for paying visitors. Genevieve and Peter offer quirky ideas to help make this possible.

Escape to the Chateau

Husband and wife team Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree decided to trade in their apartment in Essex for a 19th Century French chateau. In serious need of renovation, the couple works tirelessly to restore the chateau to its former glory, combining quirky elements with the historical features of the building.

The first season follows the renovation, as they work to make the property hospitable again, despite a tight budget. Determined not to compromise on quality, they strive to ensure their budget doesn’t affect the results. For added drama, they’re working against a deadline. The couple is desperate to complete renovations before they host their wedding there. Subsequent seasons continue following the family as they run their events business, and proceed with more renovations and maintenance.

For real estate lovers: Selling Sunset and Million Dollar Beach House

Both of these television shows showcase the drama involved in selling properties in a highly competitive market. Selling Sunset follows business at The Oppenheim Group, where high-end brokers sell houses to wealthy clients in Los Angeles. . Expect juicy gossip, ruthlessness, and a whole lot of drama.

Million Dollar Beach House follows a group of real-estate agents trying to sell properties in the Hamptons, home to some of the most expensive properties in the world. Like all popular reality television shows, the cast is attractive and confident, and interpersonal drama is rife.
